lyrics

I saw you sitting on the other side of room
As soon as I did I knew what I had to do
I picked up a paper and wrote something only I knew
Then I proceeded to fold that paper in two
There was no wind so I knew that my throw would be true

It landed beside you, you jumped just noticeably
You looked around but no one had seen a thing
You picked it up, curiously by the wing
Then you began to rip it into three
I was dismayed but I can't take it personally

You tossed the remains at the garbage can by the door
Your throw fell short and ended up on the floor
Eventually someone passed by and picked up the scraps
Then pieced them together like parts of some ancient map
And I realized the mistake I had made before

I just should have told you
Told you what I wanted to say
Now you'll never know who
Know who threw that paper airplane your way

And I know you'll
Know you'll never think about it again
So I guess I'll have to
Have to explain the whole thing to you someday
